Cloître de la cathédrale du Puy-en-Velay

Come and discover one of the finest Romanesque cloisters in Europe, famed for its polychrome arches and remarkable capitals, perched on a volcanic outcrop at Le Puy-en-Velay. The series of cathedral buildings are on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Understanding the cathedral cloisters at Le Puy-en-Velay

• On the Compestala pilgrim route. Le Puy has been one of the starting points for the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela since the 10th century. Pilgrims flocked here to venerate the famous Black Virgin of Le Puy.
